Wormworld Saga is a digital graphic novel created by Daniel Lieske, a German author and illustrator.
I liked it right away. As soon as I got to the website I had the option to start reading from different chapters. Click one one and you are then asked to choose your desired language; English, German, Spanish, French. And that’s just the ‘official’ graphic novel languages. Some of the 15 fan translations from other countries include Japan, Korea, Albania, Bosnia, Brazil, China, Turkey etc. And if your country is not represented you are invited to contact the author and do your own translation.
The helpfulness of his website doesn’t end there either, at the top of the screen it asks ‘New Reader? Please consider to start at Chapter 1.’ And to the left a ‘Home’ button to help you navigate to another chapter. But beyond that, the best thing. Is that when you want to continue reading you don’t have to constantly click ‘next.’ Instead you just scroll downwards, the work is presented vertically! Yay! All I have to do is hit the page down key to see what comes next, no interruptions.
But enough about the website itself, the story? The art? Both superb. The story follows young Jonas who, on a visit to his Grandmother’s house, finds himself trapped in an alternate dimension. In which he is prophesied to prevent the return of Unurtha, God of fire. This is as far as I’ve gotten so far but I’m going to continue for sure because I know that Jonas is deathly afraid of fire due to the fact that he remembers the fire that killed his mother when he was a baby. How is he going to face his fears? I wanna know!
