I loved ‘Star Wars: The Forced Awakens’. It has made me excited for the Star Wars franchise to start creating new films. Plus, it was exciting to see some faces from the original films.
Even with my excitement, I have a variety of small dislikes that I can get over but still exist.
Why did no one use bombers when they bombed things?
Sorry, a bit of a tangent.
The biggest complaint I would have for the movie is how similar it is to ‘Star Wars: A New Hope’. It turns out I am not alone in this. Zachary Antell recently released a video showing a comparison of certain clips of each movie side-by-side.
A lot of this video shows things that should be similar. If someone is piloting the Millennium Falcon, it will look more or less the same as Han Solo flying it. Also, it was important for this film to have a lot of throwbacks to the “good” Star Wars films to excite long-time fans.
The issue I have is with the larger themes and parts of the movie. We have an adolescent trying to find self-identity on a desert planet at the start of both films, Kylo Ren and Darth Vader have a similar look, at some point they end up in a bar, and the bad guys are creating a giant weapon of mass destruction.
None of these kills my love for ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, but it does make fear all the new movies will be new versions of the old films. We will find out soon.
Do you think the similarities are over exaggerated? Are there similarities that annoy you as well?
I would love to hear them. You can share your thoughts in the comments section below (I read them all).
