Review of Weregeek by Alina Pete

weregeekIn my house we love Halloween time, which is only complete with pumpkins and scary movies.  This is probably why I was initially attracted to Weregeek.  Not that it’s Halloween themed, but it kinda starts out that way.

The premise so far is that our protagonist, Mark, is a so-called ‘normal’ guy going about his normal life is suddenly feeling the sway of the ‘gaming moon’ which means that instead of sprouting fur, fang and a lust for flesh he just gets an overwhelming craving for polyhedral dice and D&D.

Joel from the comic shop fears the awesome powers of the Weregeek hunter, in an effort to avoid the Weregeek hunter he leads Mark into a dark alley, gives him a mysterious book of directions, and then completely ditches him.  Mark twists and turns, gets caught and released and then runs smack dab into the clutches of… roll players.

Lightning bolt!  Lightning bolt!  Lightning bolt!

Despite my preconceived notion of the eye-rolling hoity toityness of LARP (live action role play) I find I’m glad for the glimpse into the world.  I’d never even heard of Boffer LARP, sounds like it’d be hi-larious to watch!  I’m YouTubing it right after this!

Even if you are not a fan of those of the geek persuasion, you may still appreciate this lighthearted, comical, glimpse into one of America’s most prolific sub-cultures.
