Trying to Get Things DoneThis is a response to:

I have officially drank the “Getting Things Done by David Allen” Kool-Aid; Hulk help us ALL!

I am still going through the book slowly, but have found some great resources outside of the book you can check out.

Here are 5 links that will help you if you are interested in GTD (Getting Things Done).

Top Links for getting things done:

  • Get on Tracks: Doing Things Properly (software)
This software was created for using the GTD system. I plan on sticking with Evernote, Google Calendar, Google Tasks, and Gmail. You might want to test this software out if you are looking for the best software for yourself.

A look in our brainI have to be honest with you guys; I’m a procrastinator. It is a mix of my ADD, obsessive compulsive tendencies, and what some call chaos addiction.

In other words, I am terrible at time management.

To get prepared for my goal of writing an article every weekday for this blog I’ve decided I need to work on a time management system that works for me.

This week I read:

Neither of these two books really resonated with me as perfect solutions.

While continuing to search online for the best system for myself, I stumbled upon:

67524_1420653759564_4984294_nI’m at a point with this blog where I have reached a cross roads.

As I see it, I have only 3 options for the future of the jasonloveslife.com website.

Option 1: I can quit posting regularly and specifically make this into a behind the scenes blog about my webcomic with the possibilities of losing you and the hundreds of other regular readers I have. This would allow me to pick up more freelance jobs.

Option 2: I can continue on with my current posting schedule and see what happens while keeping the same number of freelance clients.

Option 3: I can give up some of my freelance work and put more energy into posting more often, create some amazing resources, and provide some in-depth how-to articles (eventually adding audio and video).

It also needs to be said that I have a wife and a 3 month old son to provide for.

Goals

To find the best answer I need to really focus on my personal goals and the goals of this website.

Personal Goals (in order of importance)

No JOBS!I keep getting asked by family and friends what my current job situation is.  When I tell them I am creating a web comic they respond with, “Oh, that’s nice, but what are you doing for a “real job”.

I hate having a real job

I haven’t worked a full time job in my life.  I have always worked part time while running one side business or another.  The reality is, I have hated every job that I have had.  I had one or two I could stand (Teen Center Attendant, Camp Counselor, & Delivery Boy for a Farm Animal Feed Store) but most I hated with a passion.

Some of those jobs:

We are finally on the last leg of the Kickstarter Campaign.  We received the Comic Books from the publisher and they look great.

Comic Books from Printer

Leah and I will be packaging the Rewards this weekend.  Your package will be shipped out by Monday.  If you did not get a survey from Kickstarter asking for your address (for those that need to receive rewards via mail) please contact me through Kickstarter.  I still need several backers’ addresses to ship their rewards.

We want to thank everyone for the wonderful support and your patience in getting the Rewards out.  It has been a wonderful experience and an eye opener to the possibility of making this a full time career for my wife and me.

To support this we have:

  • 2,800 Twitter followers
  • 500 Facebook Fans
  • 430 YouTube Subscriber (with 27,000 views!!!)
  • And the best friends ever (we consider all of you our friends)

Ideas

I am constantly bombarded with ideas.  Projects I want to work on, funny photos I would like to create, short videos concepts, blog posts I want to write, etc., etc.

It is a constant struggle to stay focused on finishing the comic book even though the Comic is the thing that needs to get done.  I feel this is my biggest weakness as a businessman, an artist, and as a person.  No matter what I am working on, I can’t stop thinking about all the other things I could be doing or other projects I could start.

The criteria for a side project.

  1. How much time will it take.  My newest thing in time management is leaving a time slot open for side projects.  Right now it is just a few hours on Saturday, but I hope to expand it to an entire day.

Sleeping JasonLately I have been posting a lot about my personal struggles with finding figuring out who I am.  The last article being a week ago on what I want to do with my life.  I have been continuing to mull this idea over and I feel like I don’t have an answer, but I am closer.  This being said, I feel this means I need to rethink the purpose and goals of this blog.

Blogging to Make money

I would like to make money from this blog.  It isn’t that I want to rip anyone off or get rich off of my readers.  I would just like to make enough money that I could cover my modest expenses and focus my full attention on my art projects (including this blog).  There is no problem or moral objection to this frame of mind, but I feel it has been forcing me to write a specific type of article.

The Digital Arts Alchemist

Having followed Internet Business Blogs/podcasts for a few years now I see the potential for making money online, but my obsessive compulsive tendencies have forced me to seek out everything I can find and devour too much content.

From this, I subconsciously want to have an internet marketing blog like the ones that I personally
