Twitter yelling at me
Every day I wake up with more twitter followers.

I have 5 twitter accounts and each of them with over 500 followers (@jasonloveslife has close to 6500). Each account is used for a different part of my business. One for this site, one for my Niche Site experiments, one for my comic character, etc.

My Twitter Tricks to Get Followers

It is very simple and takes only two steps

Niche Site Journal

Another Website I am Working On.

This is an update on where I am personally in the progress of my various projects. I stayed up all night with the goal of wrapping my head around my future, plans for this website, and if I am happy with where I am in my life.

The end result has become a feeling of clarity and exhaustion (due to staying up all night).

The reality is that I have accomplished a lot in my life time. I am not famous or rich (or even financial comfortable). I do, however, have the pleasure of saying I have done some fun, crazy, exciting things with my life and hope to continue with that trend.

The future

My goal this year is to find a way to fund my future adventures, art projects, and family life.

My plan is to create a website in a specific topic that seems as though I should be able to build up a constant stream of visitors and make money with ads. At the same time I am creating a separate website chronicling this business experiment.

You can visit this website at www.nichesitejournal.com.

What this means for Jason Loves Life

While I plan to share sporadically what is going on with this money making venture on this site, but my main focus for this site will remain to be on the business side of web comics with some articles on film making, animation, and my personal life.

My goal for the next few months is to post a minimum of once per week on this site. The new sites I am working on will take up a large chunk of my daily schedule, but I have finished up all my freelance work and my performance schedule will be slowing down after the month of August leaving me more time to write, create comics, and enjoy life.

Mobile phone and computerWhen I first launched the Madman of Magic comic book I received several congratulations for finally launching (I had been hyping it for a month) and people wanted to let me know they loved the webcomic. In one of those emails I received the dreaded, “the comic book looks great, but the site doesn’t work on my phone”.

NOoooooooooo!

I had forgot to make sure the site was mobile friendly before launch. I quickly did some adjustments to the WordPress theme and did a little bit of adjustment on the coding, but I have it to a level where people can now read it on their phones. It isn’t the best mobile friendly user experience but I plan on fixing this sometime in the near future.

Why such a big deal about mobile?

It’s not often you get the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a new trend, but it’s important to realize now that having your WebComic mobile friendly is still new enough to make it a bit of a novelty.

But beyond the novelty factor, it just makes good marketing sense.

How you can help us with i-tunes ranking

If you go to the podcast section of i-tunes and search “Jason Loves Life”, click on the podcast, and then subscribe, rate (5 stars is always great), and leave a text review, it will help us get ranked really high in i-tunes.

I figure many of you didn’t realize how i-tunes works or that doing this would help our ranking. Instead of leaving it up to chance, we decided to reach out to you.

Close up of payslipIt is tax time for those of us in the U.S.A.

It the Love family house hold, it is a time of darkness and dismay. It is especially torturous for me (Jason Love), as I have to go over my books, see how much money I am going to have to pay this year, cry a little, then hand the tear stained paper work over to my accountant.

I figure writing a blog post on taxes for webcomic creators would allow this day to feel more productive. So, I am taking a break from fishing receipts out from under my car seat to share with you my tax experiences.

Elements of a webcomic mixedThis post is part 2, you can read part 1 here.

So, far we covered the first half of the 6 elements of a successful WebComic. The first three are: You, the Story & Art, and the Stage. For this article we will talk about Propaganda, the Audience, and Revenue.

Before we jump into these elements I wanted to take this opportunity to mention you can check out my webcomic at www.madmanofmagic.com. If you enjoy it, please share it with your friends and those who might also enjoy reading it.

Thanks!

Now back to the last 3 elements of a successful WebComic.

4: Propaganda

This is what brings an audience to your site. It is technically marketing, but I like the idea of not promoting your webcomic, but instead spreading propaganda. In my mind propaganda has more of a viral feel to it (technically it’s supposed to be on more of a political a political nature, but lets ignore that for this article).
